ARTIST FOUNDED, ARTIST-LED

We believe in the joy and connection that a beautiful work of art brings to life. Our Artist Founded, Artist-Led Collection celebrates this core value with rotating, limited edition artist collaborations. Chosen for their shared view of art as self expression and for their stunningly unique style, each of our selected artists brings a fresh approach that complements the ILLUME family.

FIRST FRAGRANCES
In honor of our 30th Anniversary and Lynette Reed’s fragrance influence, this collection features three beloved brand fragrances that take us back to the beginning. Lynette’s first original fragrances included Fig & Gardenia (Gardenia) and Mango Spice (Coconut Milk Mango), inspired by a trip to Bali. Pineapple Cilantro was soon to follow as she continued experimenting with unique and unexpected notes.

ILLUME FOUNDER AND ARTIST, LYNETTE REED

CREATIVE FROM THE START
As a child, Lynette recalls rubbing her hands on the lavender, rosemary, tomato, and geranium leaves in the garden of her California home to experience its scents. In the 1980s, she attends Parsons School of Design and spends a decade in NYC working as a model and actress. Lynette moves to LA and opens ILLUME Candles in 1994.

HOLLYWOOD TAKES NOTE
Looking to fill the shelves of her store, Lynette curates candle gift baskets that get the attention of the Hollywood film industry. These must-have gifts are favorited by A-list celebrities and become the house account for The Tonight Show, movie sets, and talent agencies.

FROM KITCHEN TO FACTORY
ILLUME's manufacturing operation moves from Lynette’s garage to a 1,000 square foot space in a strip mall in 1996. Within six months, six of those spaces are needed to keep up with demand! Within five years of its humble beginning in her kitchen, ILLUME moves into a 25,000 square foot factory with a crew of over 125 people.

GOODBYE FOR NOW
In 2000 Lynette sells ILLUME and continues to work in the candle industry as a consultant in fragrance, product development, and design. She also delights in raising two beautiful children, Harris and Izzy.

ALONG CAME ART
In 2020 Lynette is living in Italy and finds her way back to art through painting. What starts as a way to cope with the unknowns of the pandemic becomes a daily practice at her studio. She is thrilled when one of her pieces is selected for the London Art Biennale in June 2021!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
Currently in 2024, Lynette is collaborating with ILLUME on a limited edition 30th anniversary collection featuring her abstract paintings. She believes art is like life: trust yourself, follow your inner voice and in the end you will prevail.
